Patience may be a virtue, but it's not easy

Hey!

I'm guessing that 90% of people have heard the saying "patience is a virtue" at some point in their lives. We're constantly being reminded of it by parents, friends and family. It's on posters, calendars and on your auntie's Instagram. Variations of it are just one of many morals we are told throughout our lives, and we accept it. After all, those who are patient have better mental health, achieve their goals easier and are nicer. So why can't we all be this patient?

Personally, I struggle with being patient. I'm the kind of person that will get great ideas but then finds it hard to follow through with them unless I can start them immediately. My long-term goals are likely short-lived because I have to be patient to see the results. Not to mention that the attention span of a human is very short, so it doesn't exactly help.

We live in a world where it's super difficult to be patient because we aren't used to it. We're obsessed with convenience, and that means speed! We stop using our technology when it starts to get slow (Although the 2012 MacBook Pro I'm using to write this isn't exactly speedy itself), and if something has more than a 20 second wait time it isn't worth it. Many times I've been extremely bored when waiting for an app to download, and that only takes about a minute at most.

For example, if you're going on a long car ride, you're bound to ask when you're going to get there and how long it will take. Many apps like Uber, Uber Eats, Google Maps, etc use tracking so they can tell you when your car will arrive or how long your pizza will take. I've been known to order food and spend the whole time I have to wait checking how much longer it will be and complaining because it hasn't arrived already.
I've made myself aware of these habits, and I'm going to try and push myself to wait more. Being patient and continuing to do something even if it's hard. Doing something productive instead of constantly checking my phone for that pizza. Not rewarding myself straight away. Patience is hard, I definitely agree, but we can train ourselves to be more patient. It'll be helpful in the long run, trust me. Now go order a package online and say you're doing it to practice being patient!

I hope you enjoyed this post! See you soon x

  1. GAH I LOVED THIS POST SO MUCH! I think this is a topic that really needs to be discussed and hasn't been discussed enough. You see, sometimes I don't have patience (especially when it comes to ideas and life goals) but sometimes the reason why I don't have it is because of how our world is. Everything is NOW NOW NOW and sometimes I just need everyone to stop for a few seconds to let me catch my breath.

I constantly feel like I can't catch my breath. But people need to understand that there is always time to breathe. <3 And I think it is super great that you want to work on your patience! I'm going to do the same. :)
